CBS: Conforto, Bullpen Lead Mets To Win Over Twins

    MLB

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- Michael Conforto went 4-for-4 and drove in the go-ahead run with a two-out single in the fifth inning, giving the New York Mets enough to hang on for a 3-2 victory over the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday night.

Conforto even made the defensive play of the game, a graceful leaping grab at the top of the wall in left-center to end the third with a runner on and take away a potential homer from Nelson Cruz. Jonathan Schoop led off that inning against Steven Matz with a home run.

With Matz on a pitch limit, the Mets bullpen backed up the highlight reel created by Conforto with one hit allowed over the first four of five scoreless innings.

Fansided: Minnesota Twins post game report: Twins fall to Mets 3-2

The Minnesota Twins began a short two-game series against the New York Mets taking the loss in the first by a score of 3-2.

Michael Pineda would get the start tonight for the Minnesota Twins as he looked relatively sharp in his first appearance following the All-Star break. "Big Mike" would give up 3 runs with only 1 of them being earned, a good start to the second half for the big right-handed pitcher. Though the game ended with a Twins loss, it was great to see two familiar faces back in the starting lineup in Eddie Rosario and C.

Fansided: Minnesota Twins series preview: Twins host two-game series with reeling Mets

The Minnesota Twins and New York Mets have been a mirror image of each other so far in 2019. While the Twins had low expectations this season and didn't add anybody with much name value, they've had a quick rise to the top of the American League and are poised for an October playoff push.

For the Mets, their offseason was filled with big splashes as they acquired names such as Robinson Cano, Edwin Diaz and Todd Frazier in hopes of catching up with the Atlanta Braves and the Philadelphia Phillies in the NL East.
