Alec mills normally comes out of the pen but he's getting the start today. DeSclafani isn't a great pitcher but has looked really good outside of his start in Milwaukee where he gave up 6 earned. But he hasn't giving up many earned runs and didn't give up any in his last start against teh cubs. I'm going to use my "call ups do well to start" theory because other teams don't have a good feel for them. I really like the under in htis one and the wind isn't howling and it's blowing in a little. I think this is too high

    My Pick: Under 10.5

***DOG OF THE DAY*** Getting the Reds here at +118 feels like a steal. They statistically have the better lineup on paper, and they have the much better pitcher on the mound here in DeSclafini - he has been pitching really well recently, and has given up one or zero runs in four of his last six starts.

    My Pick: Cincinnati +118 60%

I like the Cubs to get a bounce back win here. For one, Chicago has not lost two in a row since July 3 and they have a positive pitching match up with DeSclafani where they are 5-2 in their last seven games against right-handed starters. Cincinnati is 2-5 in its last seven following a win and 3-8 in DeSclafanis last 11 starts against the National League Central. The Cubs are 4-1 in their last five against the National League Central and 5-2 in their last seven against losing opponents. All signs are pointing to the Cubs to take this one.

    My Pick: Chicago -128

Redleg Nation: Reds Fall to Cubs in Extras

    MLB

In a game flush with drama, the Cincinnati Reds (43-49) fell victim to the walk-off against the Chicago Cubs (51-44) with a score of 4-3 in extra innings at Wrigley Field, Tuesday night.

Kyle Schwarber floated the game-winner just into the basket in left-center field off of Raisel Iglesias (2-8, 3.92 ERA) in the bottom of the tenth.

The Reds began the game well. Eugenio Suarez smashed yet another first-inning dinger to give the Reds a 1-0 lead. Cubs starter Alec Mills (ND, 4.50 ERA) then proceeded to hit Yasiel Puig and Derek Dietrich, consecutively, and allow a RBI-single to Nick Senzel, as the Reds doubled their lead.

Bleed Cubbie Blue: Chicago Cubs vs. Cincinnati Reds preview, Tuesday 7/16, 7:05 CT

    MLB

Stop this guy and you've stopped the Reds, for the most part:

In 42 PA vs #Cubs this season, Eugenio Suarez is now up to .459/.476/.865 with 4 HR & 15 RBI after his first inning home run.

    -- Christopher Kamka (@ckamka) July 16, 2019

Those numbers are a bit lower now since the Cubs did retire Suarez in his other three PA Monday night. Still... there's the guy you need to get out on this team.

    Notes:

Jason Heyward continued his hot hitting Monday with a 2-for-4 night.

Cubs Insider: Chicago Cubs Score and Recap (7/15/19): Reds 6, Cubs 3 - Defensive Miscues Allow Reds to Mount Late Comeback

Riding the momentum of their emphatic weekend sweep, the Cubs welcomed the Reds to town Monday for the opener of a three-game set. Cincinnati jumped on top early thanks to an Eugenio Suarez home run in the top of the 1st inning. Kyle Schwarber's 20th bomb of the year tied things up in the third. The Cubs then scored two runs in the 4th to jump on top 3-1.

Starting pitcher Kyle Hendricks seemed up to the task, giving up two runs on four hits over six innings. He wiggled out of a bases loaded jam in the 3rd, inducing a Yasiel Puig groundout to end the inning.

Cincinnati.com: Luis Castillo strikes out 10, Cincinnati Reds rally for win against Chicago Cubs' bullpen

    MLB

    (Photo: Jon Durr-USA TODAY Sports)

CHICAGO - The Reds were trailing by two runs in the sixth inning Monday and Luis Castillo was their best chance to stay in the game.

After two hits and a walk, the Chicago Cubs loaded the bases with one out. Castillo's pitch count was climbing, but he was trusted to pitch out of the jam. He did exactly that with back-to-back strikeouts against David Bote and pinch-hitter Robel Garcia.

Castillo swung his right arm and did a moonwalk off the mound when Garcia swung and missed an 86-mph changeup.

Chicago Sun-Times: Kyle Hendricks keeps Cubs starters rolling, but bullpen, infield can't contain Reds in 7th, 8th

    MLB

Cubs starter Kyle Hendricks said after his final start before the All-Star break he felt "really close" to having the kind of stuff and feel he had during what he called the best stretch of his career.

That was the eight-start stretch just before experience shoulder soreness that put him on the injured list in mid-June - going 6-0 with a 1.99 ERA before the injury.

It wasn't quite cruise-control stuff Monday night during the hottest night game of the year at Wrigley Field this year.

But six strong innings of work against the Reds put the Cubs in the lead - until another blown save by the bullpen - and more significantly continued the kind of run for the starting pitching that the Cubs will need to outlast the tight National League Central.
