If you watched the first game in this doubleheader you saw the Rockies get smacked and smacked early by the Giants. I like the hot bats and Dereck Rodriguez to get another victory at plus odds. After the first game is over assuming a win the Giants are 5-0 in their last four games vs. NL West teams, and 5-1 in their last six during game 2 of a series while going 7-3 in Rodriguezs last 10 road starts. I like the Odds here with the Giants

    My Pick: San Francisco +125

Raising Matt Cain: Giants slip past Rockies

    SF 2 COL 1
Dereck Rodriguez survived some shaky defense and gave the team five strong innings, leading the way to another win at Coors. Brandon Crawford's ridiculous day continued with another homer, this one a solo shot following a solo shot by Stephen Vogt in the 4th. Those two runs were enough. Reyes Moronta, Tony Watson, Sam Dyson (struck out the side!), and Will Smith made those runs stand up. The Giants play two in Denver and allow a total of three runs. That's crazy!

They are now 9-2 in July and have improved to 45-49 on the season.

Purple Row: Giants 2, Rockies 1: Dereck Rodriguez and the SF bullpen shut down the Rockies

    MLB

It wasn't the best day for Rockies fans at 20th and Blake. The Rockies dropped both games of a split doubleheader to the Giants, losing in the nightcap by a score of 2-1. Only giving up two runs in a game after allowing 19 earlier in the day should offer some kind of encouragement, but it mostly just makes everything feel worse.

The Rockies managed just seven baserunners over the course of the game: five hits and two walks. One of those hits became an out, as Garrett Hampson was thrown out trying to stretch and RBI double into and RBI triple.

SFGate.com: Rockies announcer scribbles out score on telestrator during Giants rout

    MLB

Someone needs to remind the Colorado Rockies' play-by-play announcers of Jimmy Dugan's edict from "A League of Their Own": "There's no crying in baseball."

There should be no scribbling, either.

The Rockies were getting routed 13-0 at home by the San Francisco Giants in the bottom of the fourth during the first game of a doubleheader Monday when AT&T Sportsnet Rocky Mountain announcers Drew Goodman and Ryan Spilborghs decided to take action.

"Move that scoreboard off," Goodman said during the live broadcast of the game before the scoreboard was taken off of the television screen. "We've elected not to show people the score for a while.

Raising Matt Cain: Giants slaughter Rockies

    SF 19 COL 2
The Giants went crazy today in Denver, having a Coors Field dream day after two-plus seasons of nightmares. They went 1-8 last year and 1-9 in 2017. This season they are 2-1 after three games! With 21 hits and 19 runs there are a lot of hitters to talk about but I want to mention that Jeff Samardzija pitched another good game. Here's his line in July: 21-2/3 IP, 13 H, 4 R, 3 BB, 17 K. The Giants are 3-0 in those games and 8-2 in July.

The outfield, composed of players not on the Opening Day roster (Alex Dickerson, debut 6/21; Mike Yastrzemski, debut 5/25; Kevin Pillar, debut 4/2), combined to go 9-for-16 with eight runs scored and six driven in.

McCovey Chronicles: Giants feed their run differential, beat Rockies 19-2

    MLB

When the clock struck 1:10 p.m. PT on Monday afternoon, it marked the two-hour anniversary of the San Francisco Giants game against the Colorado Rockies.

At that two-hour mark, the Giants had scored as many runs as they had made outs.

There is usually one reason for that, and one reason only: a weather delay.

    There was no weather delay.

Instead, the Giants found themselves chilling in the sixth inning at Coors Field, 16 players retired, 16 players having crossed home in a successful manner. That'll do.

That's how you you win a game 19-2, which is exactly what the Giants did.
