  • 1st half over 2 1/2 total runs (-120) on Nats. 6 players hitting over .300 against Pivetta. Nats first half seems tempting but then I saw Strasburg has a ERA just north of 10 against Philly. It's after the all Star break and you don't know how well Strasburg will pitch. If he's focused it could get ugly for Philly real quick. Also let's go with Rendon over 1 1/2 bases (-115). He's 10-18 hitting .556 with 4HR against Pivetta. Enough said

    My Pick: Washington -150 & Over 9.5 60%

Over hits at the Top of the third. $600 pays $500. Not too shabby. Just need one more base for Rendon WSH -150 & Over 9.5 60%

Strasburg is a stud anyway but against the Phillies he seems even more so, he just has their number usually. Pivetta is probably slightly better than his record says but I see him having a problem keeping even with Strasburg today. Washington has been hitting the cover off the ball as of late and stringing together some runs. I go Washington tonight. But I taking the under as well.

    • ***WASHINGTON -130 BEST BET*** It's flown under the radar, but Strasburg taking the ball each turn through the rotation has been an underrated key to the Nats' success. He has made 18 starts, tossed 116 1/3 innings and has 138 strikeouts, tied for the second most in the National League. Pivetta is on the hill for the Phillies tonight and he has been wildly inconsistent all season - posted an 8.35 ERA in his first four starts this season before being optioned to Triple-A in April. He went 2-0 with a 1.80 ERA in his first three starts back, but he is 0-2 with a 7.33 ERA in four starts since. The Nats are my best bet today.

      My Pick: Washington -130 60%

Love the Nationals here in this spot. Nationals starter Stephen Strasburg has completely dominated the Phillies in his career, rocking a 12-2 record and a stellar 2.71 ERA. He also has success on the road against the Phillies going 4-0 in his last 4 road starts against them. While the Nats are 4-1 in their last 5 games against the Phillies in general. Plus, Phillies starter Nick Pivetta has been struggling as of late, giving up at least four runs in four consecutive starts. This doesnt play well with the fact that the Nationals have scored 13 runs in 9 innings against the right-hander this season. I like the Nats at these odds and at plus odds with -1.5 and even -2.5 RL.

        My Pick: Washington -130 70%

The Nationals should be able to tee off against Pivetta and should set the table for a high scoring game.

Fansided: Washington Nationals: Starting Fast Critical Against Phillies

As the saying goes, "It Is Not How You Start, It Is How You Finish."

While, generally, this is true, the opposite applies to the Washington Nationals in their upcoming series against the Philadelphia Phillies.

By starting quickly, the Nats might find success easily.

The last time the Nats faced their rivals from The City of Brotherly Love was on June 19 and 20 after rain delays turned into game postponements on June 17 and 18.

After that three-game sweep of the Phillies, the Nationals have won 11 of 15 games, while the Phillies have won 8 of 16 games.

Phillies Nation: Phillies Nation Roundtable: Over/Under 85.5 wins

The Philadelphia Phillies will return from the All-Star Break this evening when they welcome the Washington Nationals to Citizens Bank Park for a crucial three-game series with implications on the National League East and National League Wild Card races.

Given that the Phillies are 47-43 and six-and-a-half games behind in the Atlanta Braves in the division, the Wild Card may be the Phillies most realistic path to the postseason. Before the unofficial second-half begins, we polled our staffers if the Phillies will top 85.5 wins, a mark that would give them a good chance to win one of the two Wild Card spots:

                Tim Kelly, Editorial Director

                Over/Under: Under

At the outset of the season, I was in the minority of taking the under on 88.

Federal Baseball: Washington Nationals reinstate reliever Kyle Barraclough from IL; option him to Double-A Harrisburg; What's next?

Washington Nationals' GM Mike Rizzo talked after the trade with Miami's Marlins for right-hander Kyle Barraclough this winter, about hoping for a bounce-back campaign from the reliever after a rough second-half for the then-28 and now-29-year-old in 2018. Rizzo and Co. on the Nats' front office acquired Barraclough from the Fish in return for international slot value which Miami needed as they pursued and ultimately signed Victor Victor Mesa and his brother Victor Mesa, Jr.

"We took advantage of --" Rizzo began in an interview with 106.7 the FAN in D.C.'s Sports Junkies, "-- Miami was trying to come up with some international spending money to do what they're trying to do, and we thought it was a good value for Barraclough who -- his stuff is terrific, has had some early success in the big leagues, struggled a little bit in the second half of last year, but we've seen enough of him up close and personal to know what his capabilities are.
