  • Don't let this pitching matchup confuse you about which team is better. The Rangers generally rely on their hitting and yes Lynn is one of their better starters. I don't think this will be an easy game but I believe the Astros outlast the Rangers here tonight.

  • I like the Rangers to open up the second half of the season with a win at home. Lance Lynn has turned himself into the guy for the Rangers going 11-4 on the year with a sub 4 ERA. He has especially been good over his last 10 starts, posting a 2.81 ERA with nine walks and 79 strikeouts over 67.1 innings of work. That is a big sample size of significant data. That has lowered his ERA from 5.48 to 3.91 and the FIP number (2.98) shows that there still may be some positive regression to come. Houston has plenty of fire power in their lineup but Lynn has pitched well against the Astros in his career. The Rangers are also 6-1 in their last 7 home games vs. a team with a winning road record while the trend for the Astros is that they are 3-8 in their last 11 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600. Gimme the Rangers here at plus money

This may seem like a slam dunk for the Rangers because of Valdez's problems on the mound but I think that might not be the case here. Both teams have been off a week and it may not seem like much but the all-star break is notorious for causing teams to come back off their game. Lynn can be off just as much as Valdez and I think Houston is better managed than Texas.

    My Pick: Houston -130

With Brad Peacock on the shelf it looks like Houston will go with Valdez here tonight which doesn't bode well for Houston. Houston has plenty of talent in their lineup but Lynn has pitched well against the Astros in his career and is the much better hurler here tonight. With an edge on the mound here and hotter bats, you have to like the plus money with the Rangers in this matchup.

  • I'm a little confused as to why the money is coming in on Houston in this game, this line opened at -105 and is now -133. Doesn't make sense as Valdez has been hit hard in his last 2 games giving up 11 runs in just 6 innings of work. Texas has one of their best pitchers going here tonight in Lance Lynn....Lynn is 9-2 with a 3.09 ERA and a 1.11 WHIP in his last 13 starts. Lynn is one of the best pitchers in the American league and Texas has the 6th best offense in MLB right now. I'll take Texas and the plus money all day in this spot.

    My Pick: Texas +123 60%

Free Betting Prediction: Texas will Win and the Total will go Under .

The Texas Rangers hope that the all-star break was a bit of a reset for them as they dropped six of their last eight heading into the break but are -140 favorites today with the visiting Houston Astros coming back at +120. The Rangers send Lance Lynn to the hill while the Astros counter with spot starter Framber Valdez. At Globe Life Park the total is elevated at 11 runs.Astros vs Rangers Game Center. NumberFire: FanDuel MLB Single-Game Helper: Houston Astros vs. Texas Rangers

Technically, the MLB All-Star Break ends tonight, though that's true for only two teams. We don't get a full main slate until Friday, but we can play the single-game format tonight as the Houston Astros travel to Arlington to face the Texas Rangers.

For single-game slates, you have $35,000 to fill out a five-man lineup, and pitchers are not included. There are no positional requirements for hitters, but there are three utility spots, one All-Star slot, and an MVP position. The player you put in the MVP spot has his points multiplied by two while the All-Star position gets his points multiplied by 1.

The Crawfish Boxes: 2019 Series Preview #30: Houston Astros @ Texas Rangers

Houston opens the second half of the season after ending the first on a high note. After one of their worst losing streaks in years, they stormed back to go 7-1 in the final three series of the first half. Those victories once more put the team into a healthy lead in the division after things had looked a little shaky, and was done on the backs of a few hot players and some excellent pitching. They'll look to continue pushing the Rangers down in the division and hopefully gain some ground on the A's, who went on a hot streak coming into the break.

Lone Star Ball: The State of the Texas Rangers 40 Man Roster

The Texas Rangers' 40 man roster is a subject of ongoing discussion around here, and with everyone being off today due to the All Star Break, and the season being a little halfway over, its a good time to take a look at how things stand now and what decisions the Rangers will need to make in November and December.

The entire 40 man roster can be reviewed here. It is worth noting that, including guys currently on the 60 day injured list, there are 45 players who are on the 40 man roster or will have to be returned to it (or waived, or allowed to become a free agent) at some point this year.
