Fansided: Vancouver Canucks: Fixing the blue line is easier said than done

The Vancouver Canucks have already made one big move to kick off their offseason, acquiring Tampa Bay Lightning forward J.T. Miller on day two of last week's NHL entry draft.

Adding another top six forward was one of the two main tasks for general manager Jim Benning. Miller will be the final piece for the Elias Pettersson and Brock Boeser line, or he'll slot in as the reliable scoring winger Bo Horvat desperately needs.

Now, Benning's next task is to change up the blue line. He was able to retain Alexander Edler on a team-friendly two-year pact, which was critical.

Fansided: Should the Vancouver Canucks sign Gustav Nyquist?

Tyler Myers isn't the only pending UFA who has been linked to the Vancouver Canucks. According to Sportsnet 650 insider Rick Dhaliwal, the team also has some interest in winger Gustav Nyquist.

Here, we're going to look at the cases for signing and avoiding Nyquist.

    The case for Nyquist

Nyquist comes in at 5-foot-11, 184 pounds. With the Detroit Red WIngs and San Jose Sharks, he put up 22 goals and 38 assists in 81 games last season. He turns 30 years of age in September.

Fansided: Vancouver Canucks extend qualifying offers to eight players

It doesn't surprise me to see that the Vancouver Canucks are ready to move on from Markus Granlund, Brendan Gaunce, and Derrick Pouliot. The time is now to allow the next wave of young players such as Zack MacEwen, Kole Lind, and Jonah Gadjovich, among others, prove they have what it takes to play in the NHL.

Today, the team extended qualifying offers to Brock Boeser, Reid Boucher, Nikolay Goldobin, Josh Leivo, Tyler Motte, the newly acquired Francis Perron, along with NCAA pickups Josh Teves and Brogan Rafferty (hockey player).

Fansided: Games to look forward to in the Vancouver Canucks 2019-20 schedule

It looks like the NHL schedule maker had a little bit of sympathy for the Vancouver Canucks this year. While in past years, the Canucks have been known to have one of the toughest schedules in the league -- mostly due to playing on the west coast -- this year's schedule doesn't look all that daunting.

The Canucks get plagued with injuries every year, and part of that is the amount of travelling and long road trips they embark on each and every year. Well this year, the Canucks have just one six-game road trip, whereas last year, they set out on three gruelling six-game road trips.

Canucks Hockey Blog: Draft Recap, Miller Reax - Jun 25, 2019

It's close to a full house with Matt, Anna & Adam sharing their thoughts on the Canucks performance at the 2019 NHL Entry Draft. Was Vasili Podkolzin the right pick at 10? Is Nils Hoglander a steal at 40? And with the acquiring J.T. Miller for picks and a prospect, the crew give their thoughts on whether the deal was a good one to be had.

My NHL Trade Rumors: NHL Rumors -- Artemi Panarin, Sergei Bobrovsky, Torey Krug, and more

Aaron Portzline of The Athletic: The questions never go away but Artemi Panarin and Sergei Bobrovsky. Even Matt Duchene wants $9.5 million to $10 million AAV to stay in Columbus. The inevitability of Bobrovsky and Panarin leaving expects to have a dramatic effect.

Remember, Seth Jones is a free agent in three years. Also, getting value for the two free agents to be is something Jarmo Kekalainen must do. The fire is about to become white hot.

Aaron Portzline of The Athletic: Again, this is the don't blink part of the week.
