  • Official Site of the Owls: Men's Basketball Opens Orlando Invitational with Maryland

    PHILADELPHIA -- The bracket for the 2019 Orlando Invitational was announced today and Temple will take on Maryland in the opening game of the eight-team, three-day tournament at 11 am on Thanksgiving morning (Nov. 28). The game will be televised by ESPN2.

    Maryland, which returns four starters, is currently ranked ninth in the nation in ESPN's Way too Early Top 25 poll.

    It will be the 11th meeting between the Owls and the Terrapins with Temple owning a 6-4 edge in the series. Temple has won the last three meetings with the most recent a 73-60 decision on Jan.

    PHILADELPHIA - The Aaron McKie era officially tips off on Nov. 5 when Temple hosts Drexel in the first of 13 non-conference games on the Owls' 2019-20 schedule announced today.

    Besides Drexel, which will be the earliest regular season game in the history of the program, Temple will host Morgan State (Nov. 9), Missouri (Dec. 7), Saint Joseph's (Dec. 10), Rider (Dec. 21) and Villanova (Feb. 21). It will be the second straight season the Owls welcome an SEC foe to Philadelphia and it will be the Tigers' first-ever game at the Liacouras Center.

  • Official Site of the Owls: Men's Basketball AAC Home and Away Opponents Announced

    PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The American Athletic Conference has announced the men's basketball scheduling model and pairings for the 2019-20 season. Every team in The American plays seven of its 11 conference opponents twice and the other four opponents once - two at home and two on the road.

    The American is the only major conference in the country to return all of its individual on-court award winners from the 2018-19 season. The 2019-20 top returners include Player of the Year Jarron Cumberland (Cincinnati), Freshman of the Year Alexis Yetna (USF), Coach of the Year Kelvin Sampson (Houston), Defensive Player of the Year Laquincy Rideau (USF), Sixth Man of the Year DeJon Jarreau (Houston) and Most Improved Players of the Year Josh Carlton (UConn) and Nate Pierre-Louis (Temple).

  • Official Site of the Owls: Fran Dunphy Receives 2019 Wanamaker Award

    PHILADELPHIA - Former Temple men's basketball coach received Philadelphia sports' highest honor Tuesday, the John Wanamaker Award. Dunphy, who was named the 2019 Philadelphia Big 5 Coach of the Year and inducted into the organization's Hall of Fame on April 15, guided Temple to 270 wins in his 13-year tenure, including a 23-10 record and NCAA berth this season. Earlier this year he received the Gene Bartow Award for his contributions to the game, the Dean Smith Award presented by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association and the Philadelphia Sports Writers Association Good Guy Award.

    The all-time winningest coach in Philadelphia Big 5 history with 580 victories, Dunphy led Temple to 10 postseason appearances, including eight trips to the NCAA Tournament.
