  • Kentucky has been winning with their 23rd ranked defense, the Wildcats have held their opponents to an impressive 52.6 points per game with suffocating team defense. Whereas the Tigers have been winning with their offense, averaging 88 points per game. These two teams have already met twice this season, once on Jan. 19th and the Wildcats won a close game at Auburn 82-80 on January 19. The other game on February 23rd and routed the Tigers at home at Rupp Arena 80-53 on February 23. So prior matchups favor the Wildcats and the Tigers will be without their third leading scoring and leading rebounder Chuma Okeke due to an injured knee. The betting value is with Kentucky to win and cover this low line today.

Im getting the short end of the stick here in this situation with the (-4.5), I rather of bought in at (-2.5). But I still believe Kentucky can win by 5 or more. This auburn team can shoot but they are missing one of their top scorers in Okeke. On the other hand Kentucky Has their Star Player PJ Washington back and he looks HEALTHY! Auburn will get their Points from the 3 point range, but they will eventually miss and when they do Kentucky will slowly Pull away. Kentucky is much bigger than Aurbun which will make it hard for Auburn to score points in the paint. Lay the points, give me Kentucky!

Going with the Wildcats to make it to the final 4. While there is never a good time for a team to lose a player due to injury, Auburn could not have picked a worse time to lose one of its best players in Okeke ahead of arguably its biggest game in school history. Of course, this could also have held true for Kentucky had Washington been unable to play in the regionals after missing the first two rounds with a sprained foot or if Travis sprained knee in February had been more severe. Even with Okeke, Kentuckys length has been a matchup problem on both ends of the court. When the Wildcats have the ball, their taller guards can usually make uncontested post passes, and thats when the trouble starts. Travis and Washington are effective finishers at the rim, and when Herro is on the strong side with the ball, his presence prevents double teams in the low block. Kentuckys defensive length and depth on the perimeter is a problem Auburn must solve to keep this game competitive since the Wildcats can crowd the Tigers shooters. Auburns third, fourth, and fifth guards Dunbar, McCormick, and Samir Dougherty all must click if the Tigers are to have any chance pulling this upset without Okeke. This line has moved two points in Kentuckys favor to 4.5 since the first run of this preview, which partly reflects Okekes confirmed absence and also perhaps the allure of the Kentucky name. There is less confidence in the Wildcats covering the bigger number, but they should still do so.

I couldn't decide if Okeke being out would be a source for motivation for Auburn or will it be to big a hurdle for them to overcome. If he only meant something to the offense maybe somebody steps up, but they will miss him defensively as well and that's a dream breaker. Auburn walks away with one here even with 4.5,

I doubted the undersized Tigers against UNC and got burnt for it. I'm playing the under here. Last time these guys played, Auburn only hit 30% of there 3's and now they're without SOphmore sensation Chuma Okuke. In order to beat the Wildcats, they'll need to cause some turnovers and get some fastbreak points as they are not going to beat them on the glass and likely to have trouble from distance with the size of UK guards.

Kentucky welcomed back PJ Washington in the Sweet 16 while Auburn lost Chuma Okeke definitely a storyline to watch for.
