Boston without both big men today as both Al Horford and Aron Baynes OUT for today's game, but Boston does have Irving, Jaylen Brown, Marcus Smart and company though, which should be enough depth to come up with the win. I know Charlotte if playing for their playoff lives, but I think Boston bounces back from their loss to Philly with a road win here.

    My Pick: Boston -3.5 & Over 222 50%

Charlotte Observer: It wasn't just what Charlotte Hornets did, it's how they did it, to beat Boston Celtics

The only thing more surprising than what the Charlotte Hornets did Saturday was how they did it.

The last time the Hornets beat a team as talented as the Boston Celtics was Dec. 7, when they knocked off the Denver Nuggets. There was no reason Saturday should have broken that pattern. The Hornets trailed by 18 in the fourth quarter.

And then they played eight minutes of hellacious defense. The Celtics scored all of five points the rest of the game, to lose 124-117.

It's too late to say this will make any realistic difference in the Hornets' playoff chances.

Charlotte Observer: Charlotte Hornets top Boston Celtics on Kemba Walker's near-triple double

Kemba Walker finished an assist short of a triple-double in leading the Charlotte Hornets to a 124-117 victory over the Boston Celtics.

Walker finished with 36 points, 11 rebounds and nine assists. This was his 23rd game of 30 or more points this season for the three-time All-Star.

Celtics point guard Kyrie Irving finished with 31 points. Reserve Jaylen Brown added 29 points.

The Hornets improved to 34-39. They play at the Toronto Raptors on Sunday. The Celtics fell to 43-31 in their second loss this season to the Hornets.

Walker hit a 3-pointer with 1:18 left over Celtics forward Jayson Tatum for a one-point lead.

  • @celtics • 3m Kemba Walker sparks late rally as Charlotte Hornets stun Celtics 124-117

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) -- Kemba Walker scored 18 of his game-high 36 points in the fourth quarter and the Charlotte Hornets rallied to beat the Boston Celtics 124-117 Saturday night.

It was Walker's 23rd game of 30 or more points this season. He added 11 rebounds and nine assists.

Rookie Miles Bridges scored a career-high 20 points, Marvin Williams and Malik Monk added 13 points apiece and Dwayne Bacon scored 11.

Charlotte won its second straight, improved to 33-39 and kept its faint postseason hopes alive.

Kyrie Irving led Boston with 31 points. Jaylen Brown added 29 points and Marcus Morris 15.

At the Hive: Reeling Hornets face Boston Celtics for the fourth time

    When: 6:00 p.m. EDT

    Where: Spectrum Center; Charlotte, NC

How to watch: Fox Sports Southeast, NBA League pass

The Hornets are still on the outside looking in at the postseason with the regular season nearly over. Charlotte will need a lot of wins and help if they want to sneak into the final playoff spot. Head coach James Borrego switched up his rotations in the Hornets most recent game: a 113-106 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Now, the Hornets will look to desperately build on that game as they host the Boston Celtics on Saturday night at Spectrum Center.

Fansided: Boston Celtics head to Charlotte to face the Hornets in the first night of a back-to-back

Boston comes into the game off a tough 115-118 defeat to the Philadelphia 76ers and will be hoping they can find a way past a Hornets team who are fighting for their playoff lives. The team will be without big men Al Horford (knee) and Aron Baynes (ankle) for the game, so it remains to be seen who head coach Brad Stevens will give the nod to at the Center spot for the C's. However, the most likely candidate is Daniel Theis.

Theis has made two starts already this season for the Celtics, and the team are also 2-0 when he has had his number called upon.

Official Site of the Charlotte Hornets: Hornets Kicking Off Tough Back-to-Back with Boston Celtics

A three-game homestand wraps up for the Charlotte Hornets tonight as they tip off a hardy back-to-back set against the Boston Celtics beginning at 6 p.m. ET.

This will be the fourth and final meeting of the season between the two sides with the home team 3-0 thus far. Despite not having Kyrie Irving, Boston won easily, 126-94, most recently back on Jan. 30 after shooting 55.6 percent from the field. The Hornets got a team-high 21 points from Kemba Walker, but were routed in the second half by 28 points.

Jeremy Lamb is two games removed from an outstanding 26-point, 11-rebound outing on Monday night and on the year, is averaging 12.

Fansided: Charlotte Hornets close out home stand against the Boston Celtics

It's safe to say that the Charlotte Hornets (32-39) haven't had much success against the Boston Celtics (43-29) over the years.

In fact, the last time the Hornets even won the season series against the Celtics was the 2000-2001 season. Since then, Boston has dominated, winning the season series 11 out of the past 15 times.

One has to wonder what would have happened if Charlotte had a team during the gap between the 2001-2002 and 2004-2005 seasons.

Charlotte won't win this year's series either, but they can at least tie it with a win in Boston.
