The Mets roll into Houston in a much different spot than one would expect from a team that has seen both of its ace pitchers on the IL for a chunk of the season. But this version of the Mets is a far cry from the hapless Mets that have started past seasons with high hopes that seemingly melt under the light of a thousand IL trips.

Not only have they been resilient, the team has absolutely thrived. Sitting at 45-24, the Mets have the best record in the NL and are second only to the Yankees league-wide.

There are professional hitters and then there are Professional Hitters(tm).

Michael Brantley might be chief among the latter. In 2022, at the age of 35, he finds himself alone in an impressive, specialized category.

Of the 158 qualified hitters in baseball, only eight have accrued more walks than strikeouts.

Brantley is one of them.

But when it comes to also making hard contact, only one of those eight players has a Hard-hit rate of at least 45 percent: Brantley.

There is another name who falls just shy of inclusion: Nationals superstar Juan Soto, whose Hard-hit rate is 44.

Since starting to write over here at Crawfish Boxes, I've been tasked with the Saturday recaps. Despite winning roughly sixty percent of the time, it seems the Astros are unable to take the gold home during the games in which I'm assigned with the game capsule. In preparation for this article, I noticed that resident ace Justin Verlander (8-2, 1.94) should have given me a better-than-average chance at finally writing about a Saturday victory. Houston's punchless Saturdays are not just limited to my tenure here either...They're 3-8 after today's debacle (and 37-17 otherwise).

Verlander's foe, Johnny Cueto (0-3, 3.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Relief pitcher Albert Abreu is back with the Yankees, two months after he was traded to Texas as part of the deal that brought catcher Jose Trevino to New York.

The 26-year-old right-hander was claimed off waivers from the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday. The Yankees opened a roster spot by designating pitcher David McKay for assignment.

Abreu has a 3.46 ERA this season for the Rangers and Royals, allowing 10 hits -- three of them homers, in 13 innings with 12 strikeouts and 16 walks.

2022 has been a whirlwind of a campaign for Joey Gallo. The last few weeks have been much, much better, but before then, he had been performing as poorly as he had since his abbreviated second season in the league by a considerable margin. Since Gallo's semi-permanent move back his natural position, right field, he has been visually more comfortable on defense and is without question taking better swings in each and every at-bat.

A few weeks ago, as it seemed Gallo was strategically being put back in right field on a more consistent basis, I wrote about the potential positive effects it may have on his ability to make adjustments on offense.

With summer officially getting set to kick off, it appears that the Yankees minor league teams are heating up. Three of the Yankees' full-season affiliates won their weekly series, with Double-A Somerset regaining first place after falling back in the standings last week. Strong pitching performances remain the constant of the system, but a number of bats have been coming on strong since mid-May with positive trends holding for a number of players. Let's take a look around the Yankees' system and see who the top performers are.
