This is not the kind of season that Ryan McMahon envisioned when he signed a six-year, $70 million contract during spring training. But the Rockies' third baseman said the pressure of living up to the contract is not what's fueling his funk.

"The only time I've thought about that is when somebody brings it up," McMahon said Saturday before the Rockies hosted San Diego at Coors Field. "That's not me, that's not who I am. My family and I are taken care of for life, but that's not what this is about.

"I just want to go out and be a better baseball player for myself and my teammates.

The Rockies played a solid, complete team game in the victory over the Padres on Friday. Now they'll look to make it a streak when the two teams do battle on Saturday evening at Coors.

Nick Martinez (2-3, 3.74 ERA) will get the start for the Padres. Martinez pitched against the Rockies exactly one week ago, and showed San Diego what he could do when he struck out nine Rockies over his 5 1/3 innings, allowing just one earned run. His other start this month was a two-run, four-inning effort against Milwaukee.

Prior to Saturday night's game, Rockies' third baseman Ryan McMahon was talking about his slump and how he was trying to dig his way out of it.

"It's usually not caring (about the slump) and just relaxing and going out and playing the game," he said. "It's hard to do, but at the end of the day this isn't a try-hard league, this is a get-(stuff)-done league."

McMahon certainly got stuff done against . . .

Fan voting for the 2022 MLB All-Star Game has been underway for nearly two weeks and you will be unsurprised to learn that Jazz Chisholm Jr. is getting a lot of love. He leads all National League basemen with 634,762 votes as of midday Tuesday.

Ozzie Albies of the Braves and Jeff McNeil of the Mets are the only NL second basemen who have received even half as many votes as Jazz has. Albies underwent surgery on his fractured left foot that will sideline him through the All-Star break, and even prior to that, he wasn't performing particularly well.

New York, NY--The Marlins' playoff hopes continue to take a dive. Entering Saturday's contest, their odds at making the postseason were at 3.6% according to FanGraphs. That number dropped another percentage point by the end of the night.

Coming off arguably the best start of his career in Houston, Braxton Garrett was tasked with another challenging assignment on Saturday, facing the first-place New York Mets in Queens. Things didn't go quite as well for the young southpaw this time around.

After a 1-2-3 bottom of the first, the Mets got on the board in the second.
