I love gray in this matchup as well! One of the things that really makes me like him is he is dominate to right handed hitters and kind of struggles against lefties. The marlins should have one lefty in the lineup today and Sandy Alcantara is a horrible batter. I like his strike out prop tonight as well but we have Gray who should dominate and Sandy who is a contact pitcher in coors. Rockies to the promise land today

I love the rockies in this spot at home against the Marlins. The marlins just traveled after playing in Miami yesterday and Gray is a little banged up but took last start off and should be good to go. Alcantara has not been good and has a strike out rate of 16.8% and a walk rate of 11.1% which does not bode well for him at all. He basically is a contact pitcher with a sub par groundball rate of 42% traveling to Coors facing five left handed batters in the projected lineup. Meanwhile Gray does well at home and has a huge advantage. I just love the rockies run line here at -125 and I hit that this morning so jump aboard!

    My Pick: Colorado -230

Coors field is obliviously known for high scoring games but I don't think that is the case here. Marlins offense exploded yesterday against Dodgers but this Miami team is also very inconsistent. If you have to play Over/Under I would side with Under.

(69% consensus). The Miami Marlins and Colorado Rockies are well out of playoff contention but carry some momentum into their three-game series that begins Friday in Denver. Miami's flight to the Mile High City was a bit more tolerable after avoiding a season series sweep with a 13-7 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Thursday while Colorado enjoyed a day off after Nolan Arenado belted a walk-off, two-run homer in Wednesday's 7-6 win over Arizona... http://bit.ly/2E5d1Ao

Purple Row: Colorado Rockies 3, Miami Marlins 0: Jon Gray shuts down Marlins in win

    MLB

The Colorado Rockies used a couple of homers and a dominant performance from Jon Gray to secure a 3-0 win over the Miami Marlins in Friday's series opener at Coors Field. Ryan McMahon and Nolan Arenado provided the offense and Gray did the rest, pitching eight shutout innings before turning things over to Scott Oberg for the save in the ninth. That marks back-to-back wins for the Rockies, something that has been rare since the calendar turned to July.

    Gray dominates

Rockies starter Jon Gray brought his 'A' game to Coors Field on Friday, pitching eight shutout innings, allowing just five hits (four of them singles) and no walks with seven strikeouts.

Fansided: The Marlins look to come out swinging against the Rockies

And just like that, the Miami Marlins are a hitting machine.

Well, not exactly. The 13-7 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Thursday night proved the team could win ball games without the long ball. As the team beat a World Series contender after two straight losses to the visitor at home, can they string together wins while playing small ball in a spacious stadium like Marlins Park?

It's a question the team will have to answer when they come back from their road trip that begins tonight in Colorado against the Rockies. Sandy Alcantara gets the ball opposite Jon Gray.
