  • Hamels and the Cubs sneak a game here tonight. I think we run close to the UNDER as well. All these NL teams are bunched up here and I think the Cubs can start putting together some tough wins to stay on top.

    My Pick: Chicago +106 & Under 9

I really like the Phillies in this one and think Cole hamels is in trouble. Nola has way better splits at home and I don't this cubs team has not been clicking offensively. Nola should cruise and hamel looked so so last start and he did get crushed by this team not to long ago. The line is moving the phillies way and you should get in

    My Pick: Philadelphia -116 50%

Hamels got touched up against the Reds in his last start but he's still better than Nola and Chicago has the better offense. Big value with the Cubs here at +105

Its tough to go against Nola at home but the Cubs are the play here. Its been tough sledding for Philadelphia down the stretch as they have had some pitching staff issues. While on the other hand the Cubs and Cole Hamels have been trending upwards. Hamels has been strong for most of the season and two starts under his belt since injury should help him regain his form. The Cubs are 13-5 in Hamels last 18 starts, 9-2 in his last 11 starts against winning opponents, and 4-1 in his last five starts against the National League East. Look for the Cubs to deliver a blow the the Phillies playoff hopes

    My Pick: Chicago +106

Chicago Sun-Times: Loss to Phillies puts Cubs back on same tired road

    MLB

PHILADELPHIA - The home-white jerseys have run their course.

The Cubs are right back where they have spent most of this season when it comes to the road: in the middle of it, staring at headlights.

And not even the hottest starter on the staff and the hottest hitter in the lineup could save the Cubs on this night - despite big performances again from Jose Quintana and Nick Castellanos.

Not even against the reeling Phillies.

    Not on the road.

Not once the game got to the depleted bullpen.

    Not again.

This time it was a 4-2 loss at Citizens Bank Park on a pair of two-out, run-scoring hits in the seventh and eighth, in the opener of a three-game series.

Phillies Nation: J.T. Realmuto helps Phillies overcome 15 strikeouts, beat Cubs

As the Philadelphia Phillies enter mid-August, they find themselves staring up at four teams in the National League Wild Card race. It was clear a motivational victory was needed after Philadelphia's previous series loss to the San Francisco Giants and the firing of hitting coach John Mallee Tuesday. They got just that Monday night with a 4-2 win over the National League Central-leading Chicago Cubs. Jason Vargas was able to lead the way with a quality start.

In their first game without John Mallee as their hitting coach, the Phillies' offense struggled. Philadelphia managed to get two runners on in the first, but all three of the outs came in the form of strikeouts.

CBS Philly: J.T. Realmuto Powers Phillies To 4-2 Win Over Cubs

    MLB

PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- J.T. Realmuto homered and drove in the tiebreaking run with an RBI double in the seventh inning to lift the Philadelphia Phillies to a 4-2 victory over the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday night.

The Phillies will have a familiar face in the dugout Wednesday when new hitting coach Charlie Manuel arrives. The franchise icon was hired to replace John Mallee as hitting coach earlier in the day.

He's got a lot of work to do to revive an underachieving offense that overcame 15 strikeouts for the win, but the pitching staff did the job against the NL Central leaders.
