  • Unless Philly gets a second wind I don't see them keeping pace down the stretch with the Nationals and Mets. They aren't playing bad but they aren't playing like a team that wants to play in the post season either. Quintana is the better pitcher and the Cubs the better team, at least today.

    My Pick: Chicago -128

  • I like the Cubs here on the road, which is tough to say. But Jose Quintana, who is sporting a 3.77 ERA in five career starts against Philadelphia, pitched a gem in this matchup on May 21 but had to settle for a no-decision after scattering two hits over 6.0 scoreless innings. The Cubs are also 7-0 in Quintanas last seven starts. Philadelphia has dropped 4 out of their last 5 and first baseman Rhys Hoskins is 2-for-28 in his last eight games overall heading into the series versus the Cubs, against whom he went 2-for-12 in May. not a lot to like here either with Vargas on the mound. Take the Cubs ML here

    My Pick: Chicago -127 50%

  • Im going with the better team and the better pitcher. The Phillies have been reeling and Vargas is not the guy to stop the bleeding against the red hot Cubs. Quintana coming off a great game against Oakland where he only gave up 1 earned in 7 pitched. I think Chicago wins a 5-3 type lower than expected game.

    My Pick: Chicago -127 & Under 10 70%

The Good Phight: Strikeouts don't matter: Phillies 4, Cubs 2

    MLB

On the day that the team fired its hitting coach, the Phillies' lineup showed just why a change was made by striking out 15 times. However, they were able to overcome those strikeouts thanks to strong pitching and a big night from J.T. Realmuto.

Cubs starter Jose Quintana was overpowering, striking out 14 batters in his six innings. That set a new record.

Jose Quintana, with his 13th K, now has the most strikeouts ever in any start of 6 IP or less against the Phillies

    -- The Good Phight (@TheGoodPhight) August 14, 2019

As impressive as those strikeouts were, Quintana also made a few mistakes, most notably in the fifth inning when he gave up a home run to Realmuto.
