Flaherty is a talented pitcher and he has already faced the reds once and pitched 7 scoreless innings against them. Granted that was at home and he gets a major park downgrade pitching in Cincy. DeSclafani has looked pretty good in his three starts against the Cards and is coming into this game in great form. I really like the under here and think both pitchers step up and we see a 6 or 7 run game

    My Pick: Under 9.5

  • I actually like the way DeSclafani has been throwing the rock lately. DeSclafani is 1-0 with a 2.55 ERA, a 1.13 WHIP, four walks and 17 strikeouts over 17.2 innings in his last three starts. He is 6-2 with a 3.32 ERA, a 1.354 WHIP, 21 walks and 63 strikeouts over 65 innings in 13 career appearances, 12 starts, against the Cardinals. I expect another close game with the edge going to the home team Reds here

    My Pick: Cincinnati -105 50%

These two teams are very similar and will have an even battles on the mound today as well. St Louis is just a razors edge better over all and they win today.

My Pick: St. Louis -105 70%

Flaherty hasnt' been very good on the road this season and DeSclafani has been much better at home than away this season, so I'll lean Cinci here at home with the edge on the mound today and I expect some runs to be scored as both pitchers are barely average and up against two decent offenses.

    My Pick: Cincinnati -105 & Over 9.5 50%

Red Reporter: Josh VanMeter homers, backs Luis Castillo to lead Reds past Cardinals 3-2

    MLB

Josh Vanmeter has quietly been a steady contributor for the Cincinnati Reds in his bit-part role to date. He has absolutely mauled AAA pitching while with the Louisville Bats, but in his big league time to date he's struggled at one, and only one thing - getting regular playing time.

Vanmeter got the start tonight in LF, and provided the single biggest swing for the Reds while facing the St. Louis Cardinals with a banged-up roster. Josh clubbed his first career big league dinger as part of a 2 hit night, and while it's yet to be determined exactly where he fits best around the diamond, it's hard to say anything about his approach at the plate other than that it's quite, quite refined.
