  • Too hard for me to trust Thornton here even against this terrible Tigers offense. In his last start, Thornton gave up five hits and five earned runs in 1.1 innings, leading to a 10-8 loss to the Boston Red Sox. and hasnt looked good all season. Not saying Norris is a shinning star but he is better in this match up.

Toronto has picked it up if you can even say that. Should walk away with one today.

Theres not much to like about this game, two of the worst two teams in baseball on both sides of the ball. I would lean Toronto in this spot. Thornton has been decent and the Jays bullpen is far and away better than the Tigers bullpen. Norris is a gas can and Toronto is decent against lefties.

Toronto Blue Jays vs Detroit Tigers on 2019-07-20 added by Covers

Covers community free betting prediction for
    Toronto Blue Jays
(68% consensus). The Detroit Tigers are going through one of the worst stretches of the club's 119-year history, and there doesn't appear to be any indication their fortunes are set to change anytime soon after the Toronto Blue Jays handed them their fifth double-digit loss of the season. The Tigers attempt to win for only the fourth time in 25 contests Saturday when they host the Blue Jays for the second of three games... http://bit.ly/2J1zOko

The Detroit News: Blue Jays knock around Zimmermann, soar past Tigers in blowout

    MLB

Detroit -- Jordan Zimmermann has had a very long season.

Somehow, he's had an even longer month of July.

Detroit's most expensive pitcher was shelled for six runs over 3.2 innings on Friday night. And like the 11 starts that preceded it, Zimmermann returned to the clubhouse without a win to his credit, as the Tigers were blown out by the Toronto Blue Jays, 12-1, at Comerica Park.

The $25 million man has now given up 20 earned runs over 11 innings in three starts this month, sending his season's ERA screaming to a career-high 7.

Fansided: Blue Jays: Scouts flock to see Marcus Stroman take the bump in Detroit

The Red Sox, Dodgers, Reds, Padres, Cubs, Braves, Rays and Yankees all had scouts on hand at Comerica Park to take in what could be Marcus Stroman's final start as a Blue Jay. According to the report, the Yankees had two scouts on hand including Jim Hendry who is a top advisor to General Manager Brian Cashman.

Stroman didn't disappoint taming the Tigers offence while twirling a six-hit, five strikeout shutout over seven innings of work. The Blue Jays would win the lopsided contest 12-1 when it was all said and done.

Bless You Boys: Blue Jays 12, Tigers 1: Marcus Stroman was impressive, but the Tigers were not

    MLB

Jordan Zimmermann and Marcus Stroman were the opening day starting pitchers on March 28 when the Tigers began their season in Toronto. The two engaged in a pitchers' duel with Zimmerman throwing six perfect innings, allowing just one hit and no walks in seven frames. Stroman matched him with seven shutout innings, allowing just two hits, and the Tigers won by a 2-0 score in 10 innings. The two would do battle again, this time in Comerica park with both teams headed due south for the rest of the summer.

Scouts from several major league clubs were in attendance for the rematch, but they weren't there to see Jordan Zimmermann (unfortunately) or even Nick Castellanos.

Batter's Box Interactive Magazine: Blue Jays @ Tigers - July 19-21

    MLB

The #BlueJays are in Motown this weekend. #LetsGoBlueJays

Friday at 7:10 pm ET - Stroman vs. Zimmermann
Saturday at 6:10 pm ET - Thornton vs. Norris
Sunday at 1:10 pm ET - TBA vs. TBA

The Blue Jays actually play a team that's worse than them. The Tigers were swept in four straight in Cleveland and have dropped nine of out 10. They have put themselves in contention for the number one overall pick in the 2020 MLB draft. Detroit is 29-63, only better than Baltimore's 29-66 record.

Fansided: Detroit Tigers pitching falters at home against Toronto

The Detroit Tigers returned home for a series against Toronto tonight for their much anticipated Pink out the Park event. The game didn't go in their favor however, and they wound up losing 12-1. The pitching staff couldn't find any answers for Toronto's hitters, giving up a total of 15 total hits.

Jordan Zimmermann started the game off on the wrong foot by allowing a run to score on a wild pitch, and it would only get worse from there. In the fourth inning he was already over 80 pitches and gave up four additional runs on a series of walks and singles.

The Detroit News: 'At a loss for words': Blue Jays embarrass Zimmermann, Tigers

    MLB

Detroit -- Jordan Zimmermann has had a very long season.

Somehow, he's had an even longer month of July.

"I'm at a loss for words right now," Zimmermann said following Friday night's 12-1 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays at Comerica Park.

"I'm not really doing much of anything."

Detroit's most expensive pitcher was shelled for six runs over 3.2 innings. And like the 11 starts that preceded it, Zimmermann returned to the clubhouse without a win to his credit, as the Tigers were blown out by the Blue Jays in embarrassing fashion.
