These are two teams that are very familar with each other and I'm blown away looking at CC's game logs vs these Rays. He's faced them four times this year and has giving up 3, 1, 1, and 2 earned runs and has pitched at least 6 innings in all of those outing. Stanek is set to open then handing the ball over to Beeks who hasn't faced the yankees yet this year. While Beeks never really gets deep and only goes about 4 innings deep per appearance he hasn't giving up more than 2 runs all year. I like this under for that reason and don't think this one turns into a shootout like eveyrone else is thinking.

C.C. goes into todays game needing to do his thing. It will be interesting to see who the Rays bring in after Stanek because that's where the Yanks may be able to do damage. The Yanks have struggled realistically over the past almost 2 weeks and they need to get it together and this is their opportunity today.

Stanek has been solid this season but the Yankees starter CC Sabathia has seen plenty of the Rays this season and he has silenced their bats by allowing only seven runs in 24 innings which equates to a sharp 2.63 ERA. The left-hander is very tough to solve at Yankee Stadium where he features a 4-1 record and a stifling 2.31 ERA on the season. The Rays have lost 5 of their last 6 games at Yankee Stadium and the way their offense has been swinging the bats I don't see that changing today.

  • In 26 starts this season, Stanek has a 1.98 ERA and has struck out 46 over 41 innings. The Rays are 17-9 in games started by Stanek this season. Lay the small juice with Tampa here today.

  • I like the Yankees to bounce back at home and take this one. Yankees starter CC Sabathia matches up well with the Rays and he is at home where he is significantly better. The left-hander is very tough to solve at Yankee Stadium where he features a 4-1 record and a stifling 2.31 ERA on the season. He has also seen plenty of the Rays this season and he has stifled their bats by allowing only seven runs in 24 innings which equates to a sharp 2.63 ERA. Despite the Epic comeback win yesterday where the Rays were down to their last strike and hit a 3 run homer, I dont think they have the same magic in them. They have gone 1-4 in their last 5 Tuesday games and are 17-35 in their last 52 games at Yankee Stadium. At Plus odds the Yanks is my play

  • TBO Rays: Script flips back as Rays lose to Yankees 8-3

    MLB

NEW YORK - So much for all the script-flipping the Rays supposedly did in Monday's dramatic come-from-ahead-and-then-behind win over the Yankees.

Because Tuesday was back to the same old story where the Rays took a lead into the late innings and then watched it painfully slip away.

The final was 8-3 Yankees, and the result that the Rays dropped to 56-41 and back to six games behind the AL East leaders.

But the damage could be much worse, because whatever confidence the Rays felt they gained on Monday, and whatever demons they vanquished, were negated.

The Rays led 4-3 going to the eighth when rookie reliever Colin Poche made the first mistake of walking leadoff man Gleyber Torres, then the grander of giving up a two-run homer to Aaron Judge on a full-count fastball.

CBS: Judge's Blast, Didi's Slam Lift Yankees Over Rays

    MLB

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Aaron Judge hit a go-ahead, two-run homer in the eighth inning, Didi Gregorius followed with a grand slam and the New York Yankees beat Tampa Bay 8-3 Tuesday night after another surly clash between CC Sabathia and the Rays.

A pitch after slicing a would-be homer foul by about two feet, Judge smashed a 3-2 pitch from left-hander Colin Poche (2-3) into the right-center field seats to make it 4-3.

Pinstripe Alley: New York Yankees vs. Tampa Bay Rays: CC Sabathia vs. Ryne Stanek

    MLB

Monday's game against the Rays almost went according to plan: James Paxton pitched well, the Yankees hit three home runs, and went into the ninth with a lead. After Travis d'Arnaud hit his third home run of the game and Aroldis Chapman blew the save, though, the Rays won 5-4 and closed the gap in the AL East to just five games.

The Yankees will turn to CC Sabathia, to get things back on track tonight. CC has long excelled as a "stopper" after a crushing loss, and tonight's a perfect night for him to do his thing.

  • TBO Rays: Rays at Yankees lineups for Tuesday, with Travis d'Arnaud again at top of the order

    MLB

The Rays are looking for a second straight win over the Yankees in this series and four in a row overall tonight, and they'll have Monday star Travis d'Arnaud at the top of their lineup again and playing first base.

Ryne Stanek, who retired the first six Orioles he faced on Sunday, will serve again as the opener, with Jalen Beeks called up from Triple-A to work the bulk innings.

Beeks was with the Rays through late June, then sent to Durham to make two extended starts and a one-inning outing on Thursday.

Right-handed hitting OF Guillermo Heredia was sent down to make room for Beeks, so the lineup has a slightly different look against Yankees lefty CC Sabathia, plus Tommy Pham is serving as the DH with Austin Meadows in left.

Pinstripe Alley: Yankees drop series opener to Rays, 5-4

    MLB

James Paxton just can't escape the first inning without allowing a run.

This time, the uncharacteristic leadoff hitter Travis d'Arnaud took a pitch into the seats to begin the game. Paxton finished with a solid start, though, striking out a total of seven hitters while surrendering two runs in six innings of work. Besides two mistakes, Paxton was able to keep the game close, especially with great defensive plays supporting the southpaw. Aaron Boone came out during the top of the sixth to ask Paxton if he felt okay to stay in the game, and Paxton's assurance proved to be correct.

  • TBO Rays: Rays stun Yankees in ninth as Travis d'Arnaud hits 3rd homer of night

    MLB

Rays went from ahead in 6th to tied in 7th to behind in 8th and then won it in ninth, the 5-4 final a different ending.

Travis d'Arnaud's third homer of the night was the game winner for the Rays. [KATHY WILLETS | Associated Press]

They got a solid outing from their starter. They took a lead over the Yankees. They made some mistakes along the way that cost them. And then they gave up the lead late.
