I like the Tigers in this one here. The Royals were well on the way to another loss after getting shut down but Tigers starter Spence Turnbull, until they got a few timely hits and stole a win. The Tigers have struggled on the road, but the Royals are just 13-22 here at home for the year. Danny Duffy has been terrible of late with a 7.24 ERA in his last three starts and the Tigers have hit lefties at a .266 clip on the road. Daniel Norris has struggled as well lately, but he is 1-0 with a 3.63 ERA in four career starts here at Kauffman Stadium, plus the Royals have hit just .220 against southpaws at home. Lastly, the Royals are 4-9 in Duffys last 13 home starts vs. the Tigers. Take the Tigers as the dogs to win here

    My Pick: Detroit +130

Bless You Boys: Tigers vs. Royals Preview: Daniels Duffy and Norris will square off on Wednesday

The Detroit Tigers dropped a heartbreaker Tuesday night after the Kansas City Royals completed a late-inning rally behind some baserunning heroics and fielding boners in a battle for the American League Central cellar. The loss wasted yet another fine start by rookie Spencer Turnbull, as well as exposed a key Tigers' weakness: the defense.

The boys in the Olde English D look to even the three game series on Wednesday evening in a matchup of two Dans -- Dan Duffy, who has been pitching well for the Royals so far this year and Dan Norris, who has finally managed to avoid the injury bug in a much-needed starting role for the Tigers' depleted pitching staff.

The Detroit News: Tigers display power, but defensive lapse costs them game against Royals

    (Photo: Charlie Riedel, Associated Press)

Kansas City, Mo. -- This one is going to sting.

The Tigers led 2-0 after six innings Tuesday but wound up on the short end of a 3-2 decision to the Kansas City Royals.

A home run by Ryan O'Hearn off Blaine Hardy in the seventh cut the lead in half. Then, with a light rain falling in the eighth inning, Adalberto Mondesi legged out a double off reliever Daniel Stumpf -- challenging and easily beating the arm of left fielder Christin Stewart.

Right-hander Victor Alcantara was summoned to face Jorge Soler.

Detroit Free Press: Detroit Tigers observations: Bullpen gives up lead to Royals, 3-2

KANSAS CITY -- For six innings, the Detroit Tigers were in control.

Spencer Turnbull was dealing, his offense backed him with a whole two runs, and the Tigers needed just nine outs from their bullpen to earn a series-opening win against the Royals.

    Didn't happen.

Wasting too many pitches, Turnbull was pulled after 95 following the sixth. An inning later, the Royals started to claw back. Two innings later, they had the lead, and beat the Tigers, 3-2.

Kansas City scored one run each against Detroit's bullpen trio of left-handers Blaine Hardy, Daniel Stumpf and righty Victor Alcantara.

The Detroit News: 'An unfortunate break': Late defensive lapse costs Tigers against Royals

    (Photo: Charlie Riedel, Associated Press)

Kansas City, Mo. -- This one is going to sting.

The Kansas City Royals were 0-36 this season when they trailed after six innings. Make that 1-36.

They rallied from a 2-0 deficit to beat the Tigers, 3-2, Tuesday night -- the winning run scoring on a bloop single by Cheslor Cuthbert, a ball was struck with an exit velocity of 78 mph, that traveled 193 feet into shallow right field and had a hit probability of .040.

"It was just in no-man's land," said catcher Grayson Greiner.
