Smith and Turnbull are both pretty much both team's staff aces as both lead their respective rotations in ERA and WHIP, so you could give an advantage to Detroit being at home. But I'm going to take a flyer on Miami tonight because I don't trust Detroit's Turnbull who has allowed 6 runs in his last start with only 1 being earned. The Marlins opened some eyes with their sweep of the Mets, and recording back-to-back shutouts while doing so. Let's keep it going with the Fish today.

    My Pick: Miami +100 70%

Two of the worst offenses and both with their aces going today, this has got low scoring game written all over it

CBS Miami: Marlins Blow Lead, Then Recover To Beat Tigers 5-4 In 11

    MLB

DETROIT (CBSMiami/AP) -- After an absolutely dreadful start to the season, the Miami Marlins are starting to show signs of life.

Chad Wallach hit a tiebreaking double in the 11th inning, and the Marlins beat Detroit 5-4 on Tuesday night after the Tigers tied it in a wild bottom of the ninth.

Detroit forced extra innings by scoring two unearned runs off Miami closer Sergio Romo. The bottom of the ninth included an error, two replay reversals and the ejection of Tigers manager Ron Gardenhire.

That was the only success Detroit had against the Miami bullpen, though.

The Detroit News: Marlins win in 11 innings; Tigers losing streak reaches seven

    MLB

Detroit -- The small crowds, the increasing impatience of the fan base, it's not been lost on Tigers manager Ron Gardenhire

But he knows there's only one remedy for both. Play better and win more.

"It's frustrating losing, more frustrating inside this clubhouse than you can possibly imagine," he said. "Guys want to win. We know we've been struggling. We know our fans aren't happy. But if we put all our emphasis on making our fans happy, we're forgetting about what's really important.

"And that is, once we get happy in this clubhouse by winning a few ballgames, I think the fans will go right along with it.

Fansided: Marlins take winning streak on the road against Detroit

The best part of the Miami Marlins three-game series sweep of the New York Mets is that their "ace" Caleb Smith was not part of the celebration. The lefty will start the series in Detroit at Comerica Park opposite Spencer Turnbull, a right-hander with a 2-3 record and a 2.40 ERA.

This could be one of those low-scoring affairs that will play into the Marlins hands once again. It could also be one of those contests where an extra bat in the lineup (using the designated hitter) could mean Miami must summon the support it received in the 8-6 win over the Mets on Friday night.

Bless You Boys: Tigers vs Marlins Preview: This should be interesting

    MLB

What if you took the two kids who are always picked last on the playground and made them play one-on-one?

The Tigers, who are on a six -- well, kind of seven, but let's take it easy -- game losing streak, are hosting the Miami Marlins, who are actually on a three-game tear after suffering a seven-game skid of their own. Detroit's -91 run differential is the second-worst in baseball, and worse than Miami's -89 despite the Marlins sitting five games worse than their mid-week opponent in the standings.

While Tuesday's starting pitching matchup is intriguing, there isn't much else to this game.

Fansided: Detroit Tigers: Tigers face Marlins in battle of leagues' worst offenses

It was the rain that helped the Detroit Tigers avoid being swept for a second consecutive series on Sunday, as a long rain delay caused play to be suspended in the bottom of the seventh inning as the Tigers trailed Oakland 5-3. Since that game now has to wait until September to be finished, Detroit turns its attention to hosting the Miami Marlins in a three-game series at Comerica Park beginning Tuesday.

We all know by now how tough it has been for the Detroit Tigers to find any somewhat consistent success in the batter's box.
