  • Detroit has some issues no doubt, but Turnbull leads the team in ERA and WHIP and has allowed two runs or less in each of his last five starts, with the Tigers winning each of his last four starts. I think theres some value to be had with Detroit in game one, so Ill take a shot at the plus money with the Tigers here.

    My Pick: Detroit +125 50%

Bless You Boys: Athletics 17, Tigers 3: Dawel Lugo saves the day

    MLB

On Thursday at Comerica Park, Dawel Lugo hit his first home run of the season, a three-run shot in the bottom of the ninth inning. If only the Tigers could have put in Matthew Stafford to finish the fourth quarter comeback, they might have snapped their losing streak. Detroit lost by two touchdowns against the Oakland Athletics, 17-3.

Where did it all go wrong, you may ask? Well, everything went wrong at practically every point imaginable in this game. If you want details, let me say this; Spencer Turnbull allowed six runs today, with only one of those runs being earned.

Fansided: Detroit Tigers: How to bounce back against Oakland

Both the Detroit Tigers and Oakland A's come into this series in the midst of losing streaks and are looking to get back on track. Both squads have had their share of struggles throughout the season. Oakland is currently 19-25 which slots them last in the AL West, meanwhile, Detroit has not fared much better at 18-23 with the 4th position in the AL Central.

If the Tigers want to win against the A's, they need to gain their composure back on the mound. Over the course of May, the Tigers have given up 6.57 runs a game.

Bless You Boys: Tigers vs. Athletics Series Preview: Oh hey look, a normal baseball team

    MLB

Was anyone else exhausted just watching the Tigers' most recent series? The Houston Astros are good -- probably the best team in baseball, as we noted prior to this week's three-game set -- but man, that was tough to watch. Houston thoroughly dominated the Tigers, outscoring them 24-6, as they pushed their record to an incredible 29-15 following an eight-game win streak.

The Tigers, meanwhile, are sliding down the standings. They have fallen 8 1/2 games behind the Minnesota Twins in the AL Central, and are now a game behind the Chicago White Sox.
