Wainwright had a vintage performance Sunday against the D-backs, throwing seven scoreless innings and allowing just four hits on 97 pitches. He struck out seven and walked just one, earning his sixth win of the year. Mahle is going for Cinci toight and his his last start he took a loss as he allowed a season-high-tying six earned runs against the Rockies in 4 1/3 innings of work. The right-hander has been held out of the win column since May 31 vs. Washington. All things considered I like Wainwright and the slightly better Cardinals here at even money.

    My Pick: St. Louis -105

Arrieta is trying to pitch the rest of the season with a bone spur in his right elbow. He allowed one run in five innings Sunday against the Nationals, but he lost velocity after the third inning and essentially no longer throws his cutter. Lyles is on the mound for Pittsburgh and is trying to right the ship after an ugly seven-start stretch during which he's posted a 10.13 ERA while opponents put together a 1.051 OPS. He gave up seven runs on four hits and four walks while recording only two outs Saturday vs. the Cubs. With two questionable hurlers on the hill, this game has the potential for an offensive explosion.

    My Pick: Over 10

The Orioles' ace struggled in his first start after the break, surrendering six earned runs to the Rays his last time out but Means has still been sparkling this season as he is 7-5 with a 2.94 ERA overall. I expect David Price to do his thing tonight and with two aces on the hill you have to think this will be a defensive game. I like the UNDER 9.5 here tonight.

    My Pick: Under 9.5

Thomas Pannone is being called up from Triple-A Buffalo on Thursday to start his third game of the season. He has appeared in 24 games with the Blue Jays, most recently on July 4 against the Red Sox. He allowed four runs with four strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings out of the bullpen. Chris Sale is going for Boston today and while the lefty continues to have perplexing struggles, giving up five runs in each of his past three starts he still gives Boston a big edge on the mound today and I expect Boston to get to Pannone here this afternoon. This should be a high scoring game today and Boston should win here, so I'll take shot with Boston -1.5 (+105.)

    My Pick: Boston -170

Lamet returned from Tommy John surgery just before the All-Star break, and don't be fooled by his 6.30 ERA as his stuff has looked very sharp in two starts since. But he's also struggled to command his fastball, and he lasted just five innings in each outing. Caleb Smith is going for the Fins and in his second start back from the injured list on Friday, Smith pitched six innings, striking out six and allowing only three hits and two runs. When he last faced the Padres on May 31, he struck out eight and gave up two runs through five, but took the loss. This pitching matchup is a toss up and San Diego is the better all round team here with the better offense. I like the Padres here even if it is more of a fade of the anemic Miami offense.

    My Pick: San Diego -120

Stripling delivered his best start since taking over the rotation spot of the injured Rich Hill with five efficient innings at Fenway Park, striking out seven without a walk. As good as Stripling has been Aaron Nola has been even better. Two good offenses here but I think we see a pitching duel this afternoon. Give me Philly and UNDER 9.

    My Pick: Philadelphia -101 & Under 9

***DOG OF THE DAY*** Getting the Reds here at +118 feels like a steal. They statistically have the better lineup on paper, and they have the much better pitcher on the mound here in DeSclafini - he has been pitching really well recently, and has given up one or zero runs in four of his last six starts.

    My Pick: Cincinnati +118

Thick line here but rightfully so, Andrew Cashner has been one of the best pitchers in MLB, pitching to a 1.35 ERA in his last three starts. Toronto is starting a no-namer who has never even started a MLB game. The lights will be too bright for him, and par for the course for Andrew Cashner. This should be an easy winner for Boston tonight so I'll play the RL here -120. Boston wins comfortably, but I predict theyll stay below 11 combined runs, so the UNDER is worth a look as well.

    My Pick: Boston -200 & Under 11

I predict we see a bunch of runs today and so does Vegas as this total is set at 13 O/U today. The Giants offense has woken up in the past week and Marquez is capable of getting roughed up a bit...especially at Coors Field. But 13 is a boat load against two guys that have a combined 5.7 ERA. This total just doesn't pass the eye test, I'll put something small on the UNDER just because.

    My Pick: Under 13

Bassitt has been inconsistent in his last 3 starts and while Oakland should be the favorite here, I don't think they are -200 favorites. Covey has been serviceable enough to give the Sox a fighting chance here. The betting value is with the big plus money this afternoon.

    My Pick: Chicago +184

This pitching matchup favors the Cubs as starter Jon Lester is especially tough at Wrigley Field where he features a dazzling 2.42 ERA. Pirates starter Jordan Lyles was just rocked for seven runs in four innings in his previous start against the Cubs last week. -182 is a bit pricey so I'll take the Cubs -1.5 (-105) in this spot.

Too thick for ML, knock down the juice with RL in this spot...Yankees should roll today, Happ is rested.

The Blue Jays have had all kinds of problems in the back end of their rotation as Richard and Edwin Jackson have both bombed out in their chances this season. Toronto doesnt score a ton of runs which doesn't bode well going against the Bronx Bombers on the short field at home today. Happ has been rested with only one start in the last three weeks so he should bring his A game here. I like Yankees in a route here, Yankees win a 8-4 type of game.

Lester has been markedly better at home (2.42 ERA) than on the road (5.67) this season. But he won't be playing far from Wrigley Field this time, and he owns a 3.45 ERA in 11 starts on the South Side. Giolito has been a cash machine this season but hasn't looked real sharp of late. The bottom line is the Cubs are the much better team and Lester has only given up 3 runs in his last 11 innings of work. I like both the UNDER 9.5 and Chicago Cubs here on the the low line.

    My Pick: Chicago +105 & Under 9.5

***YANKEES +120*** I'm frankly surprised the Yankees are +120 here today. Snell has given up 15 earned in just 9 innings of work in his last 3 games. In three starts against New York this season, Snell is 0-2 with a 6.75 ERA. I expect these trends to continue. Love the Bronx Bombers to do their thing here today and Sabathia should be able to keep the Rays in check.

    My Pick: New York +120
