Bobby Hurley is close to completing his Arizona State men's basketball staff for the 2019-20 season.

Hurley recently hired Eric Brown, who was previously at UNLV and Long Beach State, and said Tuesday he is not far off from making a second hire.

His returning assistant is Rashon Burno, who like Hurley came to ASU in 2015.

"There's no real rush on my end," Hurley said in a summer media session. "Coach Burno and I do so much of the work on the floor in workout anyway.

  • azcentral.com: Former ASU guard Luguentz Dort signs with Oklahoma City Thunder as undrafted free agent

Leaving Arizona State after one season didn't pay off in the NBA draft for Luguentz Dort, but the Pac-12 Freshman of the Year still will get a shot in the league.

The 6-4 guard from Montreal signed as a free agent after the two-round draft Thursday night with Oklahoma City.

Arizona State's Lu Dort will sign a full two-way contract with the Oklahoma City Thunder, a source told ESPN. Not clear why he went undrafted, but he did turn down some draft and stash offers I'm told.

    -- Jonathan Givony (@DraftExpress) June 21, 2019

Dort was projected by some as a first-round NBA pick after leading ASU with 16.

  • Official Site of the Sun Devils: Coach Powers Named 2018-19 Frank Kush Award Winner

Each Sun Devil head coach is asked in mid-June to pick one ... just one ... Sun Devil Coach of the Year in honor of Frank Kush.

The award -- presented around the anniversary of Coach Kush's passing (June 22, 2017) -- is one way for each coach to recognize a peer that impressed them the most. The rules and guidelines are... well, none.

They can vote for someone who earned Pac-12 Coach of the Year honors, a coach who made an impression in their first year, or simply the nicest coach in the building.

  • House of Sparky: ASU Basketball: Where mock drafts have Lu Dort and Zylan Cheatham going

Before Thursday's NBA Draft, we wanted to take a look where NBA analysts predict the pair of Sun Devils, Luguentz Dort and Zylan Cheatham, are headed.

    Kyle Boone, CBS Sports:

Luguentz Dort, Round 2 - No. 32 overall to the Phoenix Suns

Dort plays hard and with a tenacity that should allow him to thrive in a number of potential situations. With Jamal Crawford entering free agency, he could be a valuable backup to Devin Booker or a second-unit initiator on offense.

  • azcentral.com: NBA mock draft: Luguentz Dort of Arizona State moving up 2019 NBA draft boards?

    Duane Rankin, Arizona Republic

Many Arizona State fans questioned guard Luguentz Dort entering the 2019 NBA draft.

But could the ASU guard, who only played one season in Tempe, have made the right choice?

Many recent NBA mock drafts for Thursday's 2019 NBA draft now project Dort to be a first-round selection.

He is predicted to go as high as No. 24 in the draft.

Check out what NBA pundits are saying about Dort's NBA potential in recent 2019 NBA mock drafts:

  • azcentral.com: Arizona Board of Regents approves contract extension for ASU basketball coach Bobby Hurley

The Arizona Board of Regents approved a two-year contract extension through June 2024 for Arizona State men's basketball coach Bobby Hurley on Thursday.

At the Regents meeting in Flagstaff, ASU President Michael Crow said Hurley's achievements are significant and that "we are trying to make sure he stays in place here with us."

The one material difference of significance, he said, is an accelerated "buyout fee" Hurley would have to pay if he is recruited away. Specifically, Hurley is required to pay a $1 million buyout if he leaves in the fourth year of his new contract, up from $500,000.

Arizona State men's basketball coach Bobby Hurley is receiving a two-year contract extension through June 2024 that if completed will bring him $1.5 million in retention bonuses.

Hurley, 47, reportedly was pursued by St. John's after taking ASU to a second straight NCAA Tournament appearance for the first time since 1980-81.

He put an end to that speculation in April with a social-media post saying he was in discussions to extend his ASU contract.

That extension will go before the Arizona Board of Regents for approval at its meeting June 12-14 in Flagstaff.

Hurley's current contract expires on June 30, 2022.

"The first few weren't so good and I kind of got mad and knew I needed to hit one," Noennig said. "It worked out well and I was able to pull through in the end.
